Kinderdijk Netherlands


Traditional way to keep the water out if low lying areas. And yes, windmills are still used. The one with full sail up is running now. The one with bare poles, and about a dozen more, are held in reserve and used as needed. Each windmill is lived in by the person responsible for it, and their family.

And then there's this way. Not sure exactly what's going on here. I slept too late for the walking tour. Big screws having something to do with moving the water to where they want it.
