Our first rainy day. A hotel right in the old city, near the Victualienmarkt... Or something like that. It's an outdoor market, with not an alien in sight. Go figure.
Incredible church bells ringing. Every afternoon at 5:25?
Going to a beer hall later. If you do not specify, you are brought a bier mas (?)- 1 liter. It is possible to specify .2 liter though... I think that's for people who really don't much like beer. I believe I might have a .2 liter glass of something. We'll see how that goes.

I ended up with a .5l glass, and gave most to David. But still.... I ordered and drank beer in Munich!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having a wonderful time! I've been reading up some on history of Munich--whew, some ghosts there...but on a lighter note, just read a bit about the Viktualienmarkt and a food reviewer in the NY Times said some meals there are "worth a trip across the Atlantic--esp. a snack of sausages" :-). (although a trip across the Atlantic "for a snack of sausages" seems a tad excessive!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're doing a lot! How's the stamina? Are your shoes holding up? (I guess because of my problem feet I'm always interested in the feet/shoe issue!)
Best wishes to you and David!

The market looks great, although we are about sausaged out, at least for now. We had fish-n-chips in Lindau, our lunch stop, b/c it was time for something different. Google Lindau; pretty little town.
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are holding up great, as are the feet. I could not be any more pleased with the Keen shoes. Lots of walking on this tour, but the Rick Steves tour people make sure everyone knows that's how they operate,, so nobody in our group was surprised.
Although a couple in our group, who has been on Rick Steves tours before, said they had some people on a previous tour who complained about all the walking, and they were reminded they had been told what to expect, and they agreed to it. Folks were told to either stop complaining or go home. They stopped complaining. Pretty serious about the "no grumps" policy.
ReplyDeleteI like that policy!
